Just do what all traders would do: search marketplace for that skin and figure out price from that.

Celestial Beaver: one of error messages asks player if he is sure he wants to buy dedicated minipet in marketplace. Code is fresh.

a) fee is mentioned in dat file, but it does not mean it must be/will be implemented in final version
b) it is necessary unless you want newbies flood marketplace with every blue item they find. Aka, it makes sense to add this cost.

Bad idea for a game this old.

People spaming crap will run out of money and will have their inventory flooded with said crap. They will sooooon stop doing it and just merch crap.
There will be no fake bids. Because there will be no bids. You press buy button and either buy or not depending on your fiscal status. AKA, no buyer will influence price for other buyer.

i'd be glad to pay 10-50g (heck even 100g) to list the ton of 1k items I wanna sell.
Beats getting 200-400g from the merchant any day.

Set price only is worse. Most the population is clueless to current market value.
We'll be seeing -
Dead Sword Req9 15^50 20/20 +30 = 100k+50e...because 20/20/+30 is leet therefore requires a high price.
Cynical I am..

It might as well have been a project that was halted and left in the gw.dat, don't get your hopes up

and who's supposed to buy such crap? noone will. specialy if u can click "sword upgrades" and buy 20/20 for 10k and 30hp for 7k
don't really think marketplace is coming, might be left an early test for a gw2 feature and never see the light of the day

And that's why the fee for putting up items is a good idea. If you put up a lot of crappy items, or ridiculous prices, nobody is going to buy them, and they're just wasting money. Sooner or later they'll give it up.
It's certainly not a perfect idea, but it would be a great addition to the game.

Anet is laughing right now as they read this thread.
"That fake crap we put in the DAT is working perfect! People are browsing through it, and finding all the crap we aren't using!!! LOL What can we add next? Can we put in a new fake mini Gaile for fun?" - Anet staff member

Well it might be in the .Dat, but that doesnt mean they will release it.
just like the Mini polar bear, that was in there for over a year? ..
Anet might just scrap it and add it to gw2 instead.
Edit: and yeh, add a fee, like WoW .. pay so much for how long you put it on the AH.

To tell the truth, I believe the GWG sales threads will drastically shrink then. mainly because there are no rediculous 24 hour bump rules (I can see why they are needed, but from a users standpoint they are rediculous) and no running after a buyer and trying to organize a trade over various timezones and gaming times.
The only things I forsee as problematic would be high end trades, but you can probably remove the items from listings and agree a price for a regular trade. Also trading Pre- and post-searing might be a small coding problem.
Id happily pay small ammounts of gold to list things (maybe in ebay manner of pay a fixed percentage of the asked price if its sold).
|
A way to solve the Pre->Post thing = Don't allow access to the Auction House (or whatever?) in Pre-Searing.

I'm looking forward to any official comments from Anets side.
If there are costs to put up an item (like 100g a day) I'd save myself some time and quit posting everything on guru. That's for sure.

Always nice to say "we are getting something", purely based on speculation.

One of the reasons that merchanting, historically, has been such a great earner in GW is that information channels are limited. To decipher the value of your items, you had to rely on either your own experience or research through forums.
Merchants use their time and knowledge to exploit the market and the ignorance and others (which sounds worse than it really is) and profit from it. A so-called Xunlai Marketplace might close the knowledge gaps of the Average Joe by having items and prices listed in an accessible location.
I'd like this to go ahead but I don't believe it will because of the possible strain it might have on the servers.

But weapons don't usually stay at the same price for a long period of time.

i hope it gets released. It seriously would be the best addition to the game. I hate having to stay in a district with WTS being copied and pasted every few minutes.
Even if it's just a test they do before GW2, I'd love to see how it runs.

That's your choice, but most players would prefer an in-game AH to guru, fees or no fees. The AH in WoW charges a fee and it works just fine. The fee, as others have stated, cuts down on spam listings.
To the OP, it's an interesting find. I hope you're right about it coming to pass. But aren't a lot of things in the .dat file just ... extra junk and extraneous files?
